ALABAMA - Last minute travel specials to Montgomery, The Gulf Shores, and Mobile.
Montgomery - Located on the Alabama River in the center of the state, Montgomery is a thriving city with an impressive amount of history and distinctly southern style of living. The city is filled with culture and history, but the passage of time is nice and easy.

Montgomery is a cosmopolitan city, from its famous Shakespeare festival to its symphony orchestra to the F. Scott Fitzgerald Museum, and there is always a lot going on. Visitors should check with the Arts Council before coming so they can plan ahead which of the many activities they will try to attend.

Montgomery's spans the centuries. Martin Luther King preached here from 1954 to 1960, and there is a stirring monument to Civil Rights movement. In the 1860s, Montgomery was a part of the Confederacy and the first Confederate White House still stands. Old Montgomery proudly dates structures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The State Archives and Museum is filled with artifacts from prehistory to the present.

Montgomery is justifiably proud of its history, and the many aspects of that history have united to form a strong cultural identity. Visitors to Montgomery will have no trouble immersing themselves in its history. Montgomery is a leading southern city with a beautiful location, and a wonderfully rich and varied history and culture. Activities abound, but at a nice southern pace -- and that is just what people like about the city.

Gulf Shores, Alabama
Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan And Orange Beach form the gulf coast area of Baldwin County in the southwestern portion of Alabama bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Once separated from the mainland, Pleasure Island was connected in 1933 by a bridge over the intracoastal waterway.

Gulf Shores has evolved into a small town that is home to a resident population of 5000. Its natural amenities have made it particularly attractive to retirees from throughout the United States. As a result, the city's population burgeons during the winter months. Tourists raise the population during these busy summer months to over 40,000. The mild climate makes watersports possible year round, as well as deep sea fishing, bird watching and hiking. Off the beach enjoy the water slides, bungee towers, minature golf, and go-cart tracks. This is an ideal spot for family vacation fun on the Gulf Coast.

The Gulf Shores Shrimp Festival in the Fall is always a treat. The area boasts some of the most attractive and most challenging golf courses in the country. Historic Fort Morgan and the battleship U.S.S. Alabama in nearby Mobile are always popular. Ft. Morgan hosts Civil War day camps for children in the summer. Fireworks light up the beaches on summer evenings as the City of Gulf Shores sponsors 4th of July celebrations. The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo is also held in July at nearby Dauphin Island.

The Alabama coast has mild temperatures throughout the season. The first and foremost activity available is pure relaxation in a fabulous setting. There are also plays, concerts, sporting events, historic home tours, and of course, Mardi Gras. Indoors or out, from music to history, sports to festivals, parades to plays, there are activities for the entire family in Gulf Shores at any time of the year.
