Gulf Shores, Alabama
Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan And Orange Beach form the gulf coast
area of Baldwin County in the southwestern portion of Alabama
bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Once separated from the mainland,
Pleasure Island was connected in 1933 by a bridge over the
intracoastal waterway.
Gulf Shores has evolved into a small town that is home
to a resident population of 5000. Its natural amenities
have made it particularly attractive to retirees from throughout
the United States. As a result, the city's population burgeons
during the winter months. Tourists raise the population
during these busy summer months to over 40,000. The mild
climate makes watersports possible year round, as well as
deep sea fishing, bird watching and hiking. Off the beach
enjoy the water slides, bungee towers, minature golf, and
go-cart tracks. This is an ideal spot for family vacation
fun on the Gulf Coast.
The Gulf Shores Shrimp Festival in the Fall is always a treat.
The area boasts some of the most attractive and most challenging
golf courses in the country. Historic Fort Morgan and the
battleship U.S.S. Alabama in nearby Mobile are always popular.
Ft. Morgan hosts Civil War day camps for children in the summer.
Fireworks light up the beaches on summer evenings as the City
of Gulf Shores sponsors 4th of July celebrations. The Alabama
Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo is also held in July at nearby Dauphin
Island.
The Alabama coast has mild temperatures throughout the
season. The first and foremost activity available is pure
relaxation in a fabulous setting. There are also plays,
concerts, sporting events, historic home tours, and of course,
Mardi Gras. Indoors or out, from music to history, sports
to festivals, parades to plays, there are activities for
the entire family in Gulf Shores at any time of the year.
